Results of the Surrey Downs League Resuming Cricket Survey : June 2020

The Surrey Downs League Resuming Cricket Survey was to allow the respective committee to understand the shape of a return to cricket should it be likely during or post the Global Pandemic that is CoronaVirus (Covid-19).

All Surrey Downs League Member Clubs (n=28) responded and answered every question. thank you.

The clubs who use a school ground (Old Sutts, Ashtead) were uncertain whether their grounds would be available.

Ockley and Cranleigh* (who also *use a school ground) felt they would need more than 2 weeks.

Burgh Heath have decided not to play cricket in 2020.

If we were able to get a half-season of games, the majority 16/28 wanted to play league games but without promotion and relegation.

If fewer games than half a season were possible then the vast majority (26/28) wanted to play the remaining fixtures as friendlies.

On the questions about whether the clubs wanted to play the SDL matches under various conditions

  • Play matches with smaller sides : 21 / 28 clubs said Yes
  • Play matches with reduced overs : 26 / 28 clubs said Yes
  • Play matches with no teas provided : 27 / 28 clubs said Yes
  • Play without clubhouse facilities : 27 / 28 clubs said Yes

On playing other days, than Saturday, most 15/28 (53.5%) said it would depend on which other days, only 6/28 (21.8%) were definitely happy with this possibility.
